3 Tips to Help Prevent the Spread of Germs in the Workplace
Keeping your workplace infection-free should be one of the top concerns for employers to date. Helping protect your employees from possible infection caused by coughing, sneezing and spitting in shops, medical practices or offices is imperative to having a healthy and productive staff.
Help prevent the spread of germs that can be transmitted from infected customers.
Let’s face it, germs are everywhere, and the workplace can be the perfect breeding ground for germs and bacteria if proper precautions are not taken. Countertops, cash registers, computer keyboards and other work spaces could lead to spreading germs and causing employees to take time off. So, to help prevent the spread of germs in your workplace, here are three helpful tips.
1) Wash your hands
This one may seem like a no-brainer, but you will be surprised by the number of people that don’t practice proper hygiene. ALWAYS wash your hands and not just that, also remember to keep your workstation and all office equipment clean too. Employers should have hand soap and sanitiser readily available, along with disinfecting wipes to clean workstations. You should also make sure all work equipment gets a thorough wipe down and that all shared work areas such as kitchens or restrooms are cleaned and sanitised daily.
2) Stay home if you’re sick
If you are sick…STAY HOME, a sick person does not need to come to work. Making it mandatory for a sick employee to stay home and rest or work from home will help a person heal faster and stop the spread of a virus. Staying at home when you’re sick will help stop the spread of germs that lead to infecting other employees. Also, whether you are sick or not it is vital that you cover your mouth with a tissue or inner elbow if you are coughing or sneezing. Coughing into your hands can further lead to the spread of germs around the workplace.
3) Practice workplace health and safety
A vital thing to do to help prevent the spread of germs in the workplace is to motivate all employees to practice proper workplace health and safety and to regularly educate your employees about the harmfulness of germs. If you don’t have the resources to educate your staff, you can always bring in external companies to educate them, and remember to take initiative in leading your employees to keep workspaces clean and disinfect equipment that might be prone to germs.
